Last spring, Spreading Threads Clothing Bank CoFounder and Executive Director Michele Wright attended and spoke at the local Tucson AD Chapter of PEO International about the mission and purpose of Spreading Threads Clothing Bank.
After learning about the work of Spreading Threads Clothing Bank, this lovely group of local women held a clothing drive for Spreading Threads Clothing Bank, providing bags of new socks, underwear, and clothes for local foster children.
“All of us at Spreading Threads really appreciate the opportunity to address this group of lovely ladies that were so welcoming,” said Wright. “They took the mission of Spreading Threads to heart and immediately organized a clothing drive to help our cause and fulfill the needs of local foster children.”
PEO International was founded on January 21, 1869, by seven students at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Friendship is the cornerstone of P.E.O. – it is the legacy left by its Founders and it thrives in its unique Sisterhood. P.E.O. exists to be a source of encouragement and support for women to realize their potential in whatever worthwhile endeavor they choose.
The true mission of P.E.O. is promoting educational opportunities for women. In fact, the P.E.O. Sisterhood proudly sponsors six international philanthropies, or projects, designed to assist women with their educational goals. As a result, P.E.O. is working hard to make a difference in the lives of women all over the world.
Since its inception in 1869, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 122,000 women pursue educational goals by providing nearly $415 million in grants, scholarships, awards, and loans. The Sisterhood also owns and supports Cottey College.

Wright said, “Spreading Threads Clothing Bank would like to thank the members of the Tucson AD Chapter of PEO International for allowing me to speak at their meeting and for the wonderful donations they were able to collect through their clothing drive. We appreciate their support and couldn’t keep Spreading Threads Clothing Bank going without the generous donations of organizations like yours!”
